Debate and exemptions
Oct. 9th, 2014 07:03 pmWe had our debate against the 4th year yesterday and I decided to post it now because I got home late yesterday.
Our teacher assigned specific people to help set-up the venue which is the music theater. My friend and I are supposed to finish the set-up at 1 o'clock for us to have an early start. Unfortunately, the theater was still locked and we decided to go to the library to pass the time. I almost fell asleep but my friend received a text message saying that our classmates are in the room. When we arrived, we arranged the chairs, check if the projector is working, the powerpoint presentation that the debaters are using are compatible with the laptop. The debate started at around 1:30 in the afternoon. Both of our groups are on the affirmative side. The first group of the affirmative side had a good start though she forgot some of the things that she's gonna say. After her is the first negative speaker from the 4th yr. Her delivery was weak. After few speakers have spoken, it is now the time for the rebuttal speaker to say his/her piece. The negative was okay. The rebuttal speaker of the affirmative side gave a powerful speech. Overall our class did its best to compete with the 4th yr.
Now, it was time for the awarding. At the beginning I really thought that we're not gonna stand a chance against them but at the end of the debate I thought that maybe there's a chance that we could win. The rewarding started with the minor awards, our class got 3 out of five. Finally, the moment that we're waiting for, the best debating team. Our group won the debate! I was shocked as well. We were congratulating the winners and also celebrated because we are exempted for the final exam in Philosophy! You see, our teacher said that if one of the group in our class won the debate, the whole team of that group will be exempted for the exam. I can't believe my luck, I'm exempted in three subjects namely; Rizal, Humanities and Philosophy.
